Service Grant Japan – Evolving Pro Bono since 2005

Certified NPO Service Grant Japan, as a pioneer of pro bono in Japan, is committed to coordinating pro bono projects to create a society where everyone can take action in the face of social challenges, collaborate by embracing differences, and leverage each other’s potential. In 2023, we hosted the Global Pro Bono Summit Tokyo, and since 2024, we have been entrusted with the role of secretariat for the Global Pro Bono Network.

 

 

 

 

VISION

 

Striving for Advanced Countries in Social Engagement

 

 

Numerous opportunities exists for individuals to take action in addressing social challenges. A diverse group of people can acknowledge and respect each other’s differences and collaborate while maximizing their potential. Our goal is to be recognized as a “Advanced Countries in Social Engagement.”

 

The concept of “pro bono” has gained significant traction as a means for to supporting non-profit organizations and enabling business professionals to contribute to society. Service Grant Japan has been pioneering this practice , offering more than just resources and methods. The key to our success lies in the collaboration among multiple stakeholders working towards common goals, yielding tangible outcomes. We continuously update our knowledge to address universal challenges and stay ahead of the curve.

Just as music lovers can connect emotionally by playing together even beyond the borders.

Strengthening the groundwork of social contribution activities

In order to effectively address social challenges, our aim is to strengthen non-profit organizations through pro bono projects and contribute to solving diverse social challenges.

 

Empowering both companies and individuals to maximize their full potential

There is a synergy between business and pro bono. Pro bono works not only serve to address social challenges but also play a pivotal role in strengthening skills and enhancing motivation.

 

Fostering a community and society where everyone can participate naturally

Pro bono work provides an opportunity for individuals to explore new perspectives on society and local communities, broadening their understanding.

 

 

Initiatives with companies

 

Service Grant Japan‘s pro bono work has delivered impactful results in various companies as part of human resource development and CSR/CSV activities.
50 plus companies in Japan have partnered with Service Grant Japan. Pro bono activities, where business professionals contribute their skills and expertise have been introduced by many companies as a key driving force for solving regional development issues and addressing new challenges.

 

Initiatives with government

 

More than 30 governments have partnered for collaboration. Pro bono, in which business professionals contribute their skills and expertise to the communities, has been embracedby numerous local governments as a crucial methodfor addressing community development issues faced by governments and tackling new social challenges.

 

 

Initiatives towards new possibilities

 

To further expand the possibilities of pro bono, in addition to training coordinators, we offer practical proposals for various pro bono support methods that are not bound by fixed concepts.

 

This program provides a hands-on learning experience where participants work with non-profit organizations to tackle real social challenges. Through this initiative, individuals gain firsthand knowledge of societal complexities and refine their business skills, which can be applied to their primary professional roles effectively.

Furusato Pro Bono is an initiative aimed at fostering collaboration between local communities and organizations focused on revitalizing the region, and business professionals from outside the area. The program is designed to facilitate meaningful connections and partnerships, leveraging external expertise to support the region’s development efforts and create strong personal connections among people in different regions.

This program is specifically designed to provide support for women who are on childcare leave or who have taken a hiatus from their professional careers. It offers them the opportunity to adequately prepare for their reentry into the workforce while engaging in meaningful social contribution activities to enhance their overall experience.

This program is designed for practical human resource development and cross-border learning. Participants convene in person for the first time to address genuine issues and apply their business acumen to drive impactful results.

GRANT serves as a social participation platform that facilitates the connection between pro bono workers and various entities such as non-profit organizations, community groups, and other relevant organizations. This collaboration is made possible through the involvement of coordinators from intermediary support organizations across Japan.
